How I stay motivated at home

As the day drags on, it gets harder and harder to stay productive and motivated. Especially at this time when most of us are at home doing online school or working from home. I have found that it is most difficult for me to stay productive in the early afternoon- which is the time of day that I am home from class, right before I go to work. I always end up taking a nap and then waking up feeling groggy and realizing all the things that I could have gotten done while I was asleep or watching television. Recently, I have started finding ways to stay motivated throughout this time, so I have less to do later that night or the next day. so, let’s get into it!
First, it is important to start the day off strong. I start by making my bed, and getting ready for the day, even if I am just going to stay at home. Next, I make some coffee or tea and a smoothie full of fruits and veggies.
I have found that changing locations throughout the day helps me to stay focused. I start work in one place and then move to a different room or outside if the weather is nice. I always try to be at a desk or a table to stay upright and not get sleepy.
When it is time for a break or I feel like I am getting tired, I do something to relax my mind and body without sleep. I will opt for a warm bath with candles and music, or meditation, using the app "headspace". When I am done with my break I will change locations and start up again.
Music is a huge motivator for me. I like using "studying music" when I am studying or doing work. It is calming but really helps me to remain motivated and focused. It also helps me to listen to upbeat music when I am taking a break or making myself food.
Exercise is also an effective way of getting motivated. Going for a walk or doing an at home workout video gets your blood pumping and you get back ready to work. I often go for a walk outside or do yoga.
When it comes to food, finding foods that feel good in your body help to not make you feel groggy. Go for a smoothie, salad, yogurt, hummus, apples and a nut butter, anything that will give you energy but help you to not feel sluggish.
I live by lists! I have a whole book that is only filled with my lists for everything. If it helps you, I recommend making a list of what you need to get done, in the order that you want to do it, and follow the list. I motivate myself with check boxes, and after I finish a task, I get to check it off!
I also use a daily planner, which also has check boxes. I write down everything that I need to do that day and then transfer it to the list book. It helps me to see everything that I need to do out on a calendar, so that I can prioritize the upcoming assignments and due dates.
I think that the best way to stay healthy and motivated in this confusing, difficult time, is to drink lots of water, exercise, stay safe, do what feels right for your mind and body, and always give yourself grace. We are all in this together, it is important that we stay kind to others and remember to be mindful of each other.
Loved this! Inspired me to go take a quick walk around the block! :)
