I decided to start a documentary series on here to better inform myself on the world around me, and to share the documentaries that I watch and my opinions on them.

I started with the documentary "Miss Representation". It's a documentary about how women are affected by the unrealistic expectations that society and the media have for women. It explores examples of how women are constantly criticized for the way the look by the media and people around them. Women are constantly being told that they aren't good enough. From a young age we were taught the standards of how women should and should not look, and we try every day to live up to these unrealistic expectations.

Personally, I am guilty of being too hard on myself for the way I look, the things I weary and what I am eating. And it's all because I am trying to live up to how society has told me I should look.

In the documentary, there are examples of both men and women on the radio and television, being critical of the way famous women look and act. It is saddening to listen to the way people talk about these influential women.

I had never realized the pressure that has been put on me and other women from the time we were young. Even looking at the way Disney princesses look and dress, the women that we looked up to at young ages. Little girls should be taught to be strong and independent, not waiting around for a man to rescue them while they sit around in sexually appealing clothes.

This documentary taught me so much and opened my eyes to the way women have been taught to appear attractive to straight men, instead of feeling comfortable and confident in whatever they choose to wear. Men and women need to spend more time empowering women and acknowledging their accomplishments, instead of belittling their work and efforts.

This documentary is extremely eye opening, and should be watched by everyone.
